Thesis statement: Media violence has a serious negative impact on youths and to curtail this influence, we have to understand how and why aggressive behavior is encouraged through media viewing, experimental studies that support this claim, why youths are attracted to on screen violence, but more importantly how to curb the adverse effects of media violence on youths.

According to this hypothesis developed by Gunter and McAleer (1997), repeated viewing of media violence results in a reduction in emotional response to violence and an increased acceptance of violence. Feelings of concerns or empathy for the victim of violent becomes undermined especially when the prolific depictions of media violence has a significant realism to it (Carter & Weaver, 2003).

From the perspective of media violence, the social information processing theory is closely linked to Behavioral effects theory, a term coined by Carter and Weaver (2003) who concedes that the observation of violence through media provides material for the learning of complex behavioral scripts.
