The Sea Levels Never Bothered Me Anyway Within the past decade, scientists have discovered that climate changes in the Pacific Ocean would greatly affect its surrounding countries over time. It has been estimated by the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) in 2007 that by the end of the century, the sea levels will rise above 18-58 centimeters (Francisco). This presents a problem for numerous Pacific Islands such as Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu, and Tonga. Many of these small countries only make up a small percentage of the whole world but they are already suffering from extreme weather conditions such as hurricanes, droughts, water shortages, and coastal erosions. In order to prepare them for future years, their government must take necessary precautions into their system. Some governments, such as Fiji and Vanuatu, have already taken necessary actions to promote conservation and the reduction of greenhouse gases in an attempt to slow down the deteriorating land we have left. Today, many people around the world participate in conservation. Conservation involves more than separating paper and plastic, or turning off the faucet when you are not washing your hands; rather, it may also refer to preserving our wildlife, our environment, and keeping our oceans clean. However, the smallest act of conservation will still help in the long run. When we do not conserve, we contribute to the greater issue such as greenhouse gases.
