In the world of public relations it is vital to build to a mutually beneficial relationship between your organization and the public. If something within the company or organization happens, such as a scandal or a recall of sorts, it is a PR manager’s responsibility to handle the situation by releasing a statement to the public informing them of what the situation is or is not and what they plan on doing. The organization that I am going to be focusing on is Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams is a company that has been shut down twice within the year of 2015 for Listeria in their ice cream. The first time they closed their doors to their shops was April 23, 2015. This was a voluntary recall of all of their ice cream products because there was just a possibility of Listeria to be present in their ice cream. The CEO John Lowe had this statement released to the Jeni’s website the day the recall happened, “We have decided to recall everything currently on retailer shelves, and we are closing our scoop shops until we are 100% confident every item we sell is safe. We have called in experts to help us find the root cause. We will be working with our suppliers to determine if the bacteria was introduced by one of the ingredients we use.
