Every living organism has an impact on its environment. Earth is home to millions of species, but only one dominates it – humans. Therefore a human impact on the environment is really huge. What makes humans so different from other species? Our cleverness and our inventiveness make. From the beginning of our kind we keep modifying our environment. We are changing it to our needs. We keep creating new technologies to make our lives easier. Mountains may be obstacles to communication, but transport technology overcomes the barriers. Climate may limit the growth of certain crops, but irrigation can extend a plant’s natural limits. With every newly opened material and resource we invented something new. Moreover, with progression of the science we are able to create things artificially. Scientists invented genetically modified corns and food, so people can buy them by spending less money. This is all sound great, but the more humans progress the more resources we consume. And all of these do not pass without a mark on the environment. One of the dangerous results of our impact is global warming. Global warming is already having significant and costly effects on our communities, our health, and our climate. Human activity since the Industrial Revolution has increased the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. A greenhouse gas is a gas in an atmosphere that absorbs and emits radiation within the thermal infrared range. This process is the fundamental cause of the greenhouse…
