Policies Relating to Social Media

The popularity of social media has grown to the point where a great percentage of society is using social media on a daily basis. If a person has access to the internet there is a chance that many people have used some kind of social media. Companies now have even allowed social media as part of their employee’s regular day. According to Strumwasser (2014), employers do not have the right ask for employee’s personal information. The employer can view content on a person public page but not ask for the employee or possible employee’s username and password. If the employer was to ask an employee for his or her personal information the employer would be in violation of the Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986 (p.8-9).
The military as well allowed social media to be acceptable among soldiers during the soldier’s shift. In America and other countries social media has taken over by storm. One of the major areas of concern relating to social media is the youth of America and other countries (O’Keeffe, Clarke-Pearson, Council on Communications and Media, 2011, para 8). Youth do not think like adults when making decisions. This is very apparent if you look at some of their communication on some these social media websites. Not only their communication is an issue but also what the youth share on the pages. Some youth do not really look at the fact that the whole world is watching them as they place information about…
