Today the internet is becoming a source for those other than teenagers, young adults, and those in middle adulthood. It is expanding to reach a population of approximately 47 million individuals- the elderly, or those 65 and older. Many of these websites offer resources such as information on health insurance, information on health topics, government-based resources, retirement planning, information about the aging process, and things to get involved in during ones elder years. The objective of this project is to research 5 sites targeted towards the elder population, which discuss important social, governmental, and research institutions and agencies that contribute to the “face of aging” in America. The first website researched was the American Association of Retired Persons, or commonly known as AARP. This websites overarching goal is to enhance the quality of life for those who are aging. It is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization that aims to help people 50 and over improve the quality of their lives, as well as their well-being by leading positive social change, and delivering values to members’ lives through information, advocacy, and service. Some of its main topics include financial security, hunger, independence, housing, and healthcare. In addition, its vision is to fulfill a society in which every individual ages with dignity and purpose, while fulfilling their dreams and goals.
