Click, Click. Oh No I’ve been shot at! Wait, that’s just Kristen sneaking around the corner with her camera snapping pictures some candid pictures again. What is Photography? Photography is the art, science and practice of creating durable images. Or as Ken Rockwell put it “Call it vision, imagination, or seeing; it all comes down to the same thing: the ability to envision a final result in your mind's eye, and then to make it so with your tools at hand.” My friend Kristen Savonell-Zehner has taken her hobby/interest to the next level, paid professional.

“When asked about her favorite image she replied, “I’m not going to lie; it’s the picture of my best friend who died in a car accident last week. I took it at a friend’s wedding; it wasn’t set up or posed. It was just one of those moments I captured ‘him’. Sometimes those are the best”.
“What one piece of advice would you give a new photographer looking to start his own business?”
“It’s not about the money. Remember the true importance of photographs. They are about capturing moments with deep meaning”.
2p.m. arrives and it’s time to go on location for the first assignment of the day. Kristen grabs her Nikon camera and a few lenses as we head out to The Ledges for the “K” family photo shoot. As we leave Kristen’s home in the country I look around and notice all the “natural” back drops she has to work with in her own backyard so to speak. On her property there is an old red barn, hayfields, many large mature trees and a large area of cattails and other various tall grasses.
I’m amazed as I watch her interact with the family while capturing a few spontaneous pictures prior to the posed pictures. Her contagious smile combined with her bubbly
