Riordan Manufacturing is a worldwide company that specializes in the manufacturing of plastics. The company has projected yearly earnings of $46 million and employs over 550 personnel. Riordan’s development and research is conducted at its headquarters in San Jose. The company owns three major producing plants: Albany, GA produces plastic beverage containers; Pontiac, MI produces custom plastic fabrication, and Hangzhou, and China operates a decentralized unit of the company producing plastic parts for electric fans. Process Design Riordan’s current operation process is not sufficient for the company to achieve a competitive advantage. Over the past several years the company has faces delivery, purchases from Chinese manufactures that have not provided the required stock materials based on production forecast, and as a consequence only 93% of stock levels have been delivered on time (University of Phoenix, 2010). In order for Riordan to correct this issue, a new production process must be designed. Riordan has to eliminate all the bottlenecks in the production (inventory and manufactures). Selecting alternative suppliers of motors fans will improve production scheduled and help to balance the company’s global forecast and improve overall customer satisfaction. In addition the Riordan should apply Just in Time strategies focusing on reducing raw materials cost, eliminating waste and continuous production improvement. Supply Chain
Riordan has a manufacturing plant located in China that functions as a decentralized unit of Riordan Manufacturing.
