There comes a point in every young man or woman’s life where they have to branch out on their own and find themselves. Usually this dramatic, yet necessary point is heading off for college. For most adolescents that face the daunting task of leaving their parents’ cozy home, it can be very challenging. There are some things that I have experienced and will experience in the years to come. First of all it is sad seeing your family drive off into the sunset with everyone in your family in the suburban except you. You may think it’ll be a blast, and it will but you will cry and so will your parents, it is a natural thing. The second thing I have learned is that college really teaches you time management and various other skills that will be useful for the rest of your life. Last but certainly not least, is that it opens up your eyes to a whole new world. Now you have endless opportunities to work hard and make a name for yourself. The first time I saw my mom cry as hard as she did was when we said our painful goodbyes. It was the most devastating yet imperative event of my short life. Seeing my family’s tears stream down their faces like morning dew on a cold window brought me back down to Earth. It is perfectly normal to cry because they are worried about you and care about your success and a lot of the time, failure.
