After attending a community college and transferring to University of California Riverside my goals are steadily appearing closer within grasp. However, the steps I need to take in order to get into medical school have, to this point, escaped me. Until now I was only aware I needed to take Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) along with some volunteer work to go to medical school. This paper will provide a better understanding of what it is like to work in a health related field along with supply information for the admissions process and requirements for attending a medical school in the future. In order to better understand what it is like to work in the medical field I interviewed health care professional, Ardel Avelino, to gather some insight. Mr. Avelino is an Associate Hospital Administrator at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Long Beach, Ca. His pre-health preparation included, but was not limited to, receiving an Associate in Nursing, Bachelors of Science in Nursing, Masters of Science for Healthcare Administration, as well as a Doctorate of Health Sciences. In addition to his formal education Mr. Avelino devoted time to volunteering in a nursing home along with homeless shelters during the holidays. After gathering background information on the steps Mr. Avelino had to take to reach his goal, learning about what a day in his shoes would be like came next.
