I am the first of my family to have attended college. While this prompted quite a bit of fear and anxiety when starting my college experience, it also allowed me to grow exponentially as a person. For the first time, I was without clear guidance, my parents and friends could not be there to hold my hand through the tougher decisions. As such, I had to force myself to learn to make decisions completely on my own initiative. For the first time, I allowed myself to learn and embrace topics, not because they were expected of me, but because I truly wanted to make progress in my life. I chose my own path, one that I had always felt a connection to, psychology. While this path proved to present its fair share of struggles, I persevered and have never felt more proud of myself and the sheer amount progress made throughout my college experience, progress made not only as a student but at as a person overall. Throughout the four years of my undergraduate education, I have encountered and learned from a multitude of exciting and sometimes nerve-wracking experiences. These experiences represent me much more so than any GPA level could hope to. From experiences across multiple psychology courses I have learned to look at people and their actions from multiple perspectives; courses like abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, and my clinical psychology capstone have taught me to consider various motives for the actions of others, rather than relying on baseless assumptions.
