The Importance of a Grandmother’s Love Many grandmothers are important people because many times they give love to their family. Their love can make their family comfortable, make life easier, and unite family members. Patricia Hampl, “Grandmother’s Sunday Dinner,” describes how her grandmother ruled over her family with her authoritative personality. And also, Hampl’s grandmother made her family members united with her professional cooking skills. Similar to Hampl’s grandmother, my grandmother rules over my family. My grandmother’s personality is not authoritative, and her cooking skills are not good compared to Hampl’s grandmother. However, her love sill makes out family united. Grandmother’s motto was “Come eat” (100). Her personality was strong, authoritative, and not compliant. Also, Hampl describes her grandmother’s dinner as the battlefield, and the grandmother was in charge (101). Nobody in the family tried or wanted to say “No” to the grandmother because she was in charge (101). The family members had lunch and dinner at the grandmother’s house. After dinner, family members gathered together once again and drank coffee (102). Hampl describes the picture on the coffee can in derail: “I always begged for some because the magical man on the Hills Brothers can with his turban and long robe scatted with stars and his gold slippers with pointed toes, looked deeply happy as he drank from his bowl” (100). The coffee can is important in this story because this shows how Hampl had good memories from her childhood in the grandmother’s house (100). Even though Hampl’s grandmother was a powerful leader in her family, she always gave her family members good memories. Also, she always made her children and her grandchildren gather together by enjoying her meals (102). Whenever the grandmother forced her children to eat, Hampl thought that she was too assertive. However, Hampl stated, “… my stomach full, warm so safe I’ll live the rest of my life off the fat of that vast family security” (103).
