Food waste effect on environment If you 're like me, you enjoy eating food. And recently I wonder what happens to our waste and how it affect our environment. In America, we waste a lot of food, we waste about 2.6 billion pounds of food. And we spend 1 billion dollars a year just to dispose the food waste. About 2% of energy is a waste in transporting food waste. The importance of this paper is to find ways to reduce waste. It is important to find a way to deal and managed with food waste. Because we are taking up landfill take could be used to farm, housing, or just planting trees. We can feed more people with the food, which would drive the prices down on food and feed animals more. Compost is organic matter that has been decomposed and recycled as a fertilizer and soil amendment. Composting is important in this process because it is a key ingredient in organic farming. At the simplest level, the process of composting simply requires making a heap of wetted organic matter known as green waste (leaves, food waste) and waiting for the materials to break down into humus after a period of weeks or months.
