Domestic abuse is widely seen as a prevalent issue of society, however many people do not know what it constitutes and what effects (both short-term and long -term) it can have on its victims. Many news and radio stations over-sensationalize specific stories about domestic abuse rather than looking at the overall effects domestic abuse has on the population of the world. What Is Domestic Abuse? Domestic Abuse is widely considered to be an interaction between a couple that causes physical harm to at least one person in the relationship. However this is incorrect. The official definition of Domestic Abuse, as defined by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence is: the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive behavior as part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another. This type of violence includes: physical violence, sexual violence, psychological violence, and emotional abuse (“What is….”)
