Media plays a great role in allowing the people to be informed, to be educated or to be entertained. People, especially teenagers, are purposely or unknowingly connecting to each other by communicating and informing themselves about the latest trends, events and happenings in the community.

They are fed by information regarding different issues that happen in their day-to-day activities. Also, they are pleased by the good reviews of media but along with its swift development are other effects that harm the environment and the people living in it.

DEFENITION OF TERMS 1. Detrimental – Detrimental is referred to as something obviously harmful, causing damage; injurious. (
Detrimental is used as the main point of the argument. The researchers believe that the selected media bring more “detrimental” effects to the youth of today. 2. Habits, in the research, are being affected by the media as it brings its negative effects. Study shows that teenagers who soak themselves in the selected media ruin their study “habits”. 3. Media – In most other applications media is used as a plural of medium. It is a means of effecting or conveying something and serves as a system of communication, information, or entertainment. (
Media is used as the object of the study. It is the instrument used by the researchers to measure the negative effects that the youth can acquire. 4. Social Media – It is a form of electronic communication (as websites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages and other content.
