In the tragic play Hamlet by William Shakespeare it follows the life of young Prince Hamlet that has just lost his father in battle. He then learns from his fathers ghost that Claudius, his beloved uncle, murdered his father then married his mother. Throughout the play there are forms of deception, because a no one fully trusts each other. Many spies are sent to check up on characters, because of their untrusting qualities.With Appearance vs. Reality every character is not who they seem or their appearance is not the actual reality of who they are or what they have done. Shakespeare uses deception and appearance vs reality to convey that when you use deception and you are not who you seem, terrible things end up happening to you including death.
Deception is the art of fooling someone into doing something or thinking one way about a certain ideal. King Claudius is one character that uses deception probably the most out of all other characters. In Act I, Scene II Claudius states “ Though yet of Hamlet our dear brother’s death The memory be green, and that it us befitted To bear our hearts in grief and our whole kingdom To be contracted in one brow of woe” (Hamlet I, ii 33-34). In this particular part Claudius is giving a speech to convey his feeling for his brother, but in reality of the situation is that he feels almost nothing for his brother.
