What is Anorexia Nervosa? Anorexia Nervosa is a type of eating disorder that is life threatening due to an extreme amount of body weight loss. Anorexia is viewed as a mental disorder characterized by behaviors which its results produce underweight (Hebebrand & Bulik, 2011). The exact cause of anorexia is still unidentified, nonetheless, this disorder can run in the family. A young woman with a sibling who has an eating disorder are more probable to develop this disorder (Agras, 2010). If a person has anorexia does not mean they will experience the same indications and behavior as others with the same illness. A person with this disorder may have anxiety of gaining weight, even if they are malnourished. They may reject food even when they are hungry, and have a hard time focusing. There are many factors that play a role in anorexia that can contribute to the growth of this mental disorder.
Many adolescences feel the need to be thin because of how our socio-cultural influence those who predominantly embrace the Western model of thinness. Anorexia can affect people of all sexes, race and backgrounds. The irregular thoughts can influence a person’s actions and can lead to a dangerous eating disorder (Trujillo, 2012).Anorexia is mostly connected to young white women. The majority of the research on anorexia is based upon white adolescents/ young adult females that is from the Western, industrialized nations (Agras, 2010).
