When the dot-com bubble burst, and many e-companies went out of business, Amazon persevered, and finally turned its first profit in the fourth quarter of 2001: $5 million or 1¢ per share, on revenues of more than $1 billion. The profit, although it was modest, served to demonstrate that the business model could be profitable. In 1999, Time magazine named Bezos the Person of the Year, recognizing the company's success in popularizing online shopping.
The Amazon.com is choose due to the well-known brand name that has been built up to now.

SWOT Analysis

Strengths
Expanded the number of selling products; had low to no overhead; created the One Click-Ordering program and four separate operating departments or segments; and were considered the premier online retailer in the world. Patented the e-commerce technology and strategically established distribution centers to service the customer nationwide and worldwide; partnered with many small and mid-size retailers; offered free standard shipping with purchases over $25; built sort of an online one stop shop. With the number of households having broadband access expected to increase to 29 million by the end of 2003 and the number of internet users worldwide estimated at 500 million, it was becoming easier and easier for a person to shop from the comfort of home.

E-commerce was embraced by this new generation and is used by previous generations as well.
