Confidence of Self Esteem Many people look into the mirror and instantly see flaws of a person they don’t like. Possessing shame and embarrassment or maybe even anger towards themselves. You can see it clearly staring back at you but you can’t touch it . You can hear it everytime you talk about yourself but you can’t put your tongue on it. We all know self esteem is and can be the most important part of your growth as a person. But yet we see ourselves not meeting the “shoulds” of our expectations and what reality is. Self esteem is defined as the “degree we consider ourselves valuable, and respect ourselves and this greatly affects our well being.” (Gilbertson) Self esteem is imprinted in us as early as childhood and matures all they way from adolescence to adulthood. Its a continuum that had become associated with self doubt, an automatic isolation has made a barrier of shame that has made low self esteem a “symptom of many mental health conditions including depression” (Gilbertson) This frustration had built the constructed thought how we perceive ourselves in the matter of how we look, act, feel and regard others. In psychology the term “Self esteem is used to describe a person’s overall sense of self-worth or personal value” (Cherry) In todays age self esteem is considered a personality trait including ones own appearance, emotions and beliefs.
